Live At Station 58 (& Others)
It is the Fall of 2006 and all I can say is the Grind is back and better than ever. Grind is made up of Elove (vocals), Mike Ryan (bass), Joe Rehbein (drums) and Rick Snyder (guitar). All of these guys are excellent and experienced musicians in their own right and combined they form an explosion of talent in the local modern rock cover band scene. If you didn't catch their open mic at Station 58 in N.Syracuse this fall you missed an awesome band playing hard and playing well. They starting working together early September and wow they are tight. I recommend that the local music fans keep their eyes and ears open cause the Grind is back and really good.

A JOURNEY BEGINS
I recently listened to a CD of the newcomer band FRESH. On a scale from 1 to 10 (10 being the best) I would say it is an 8.
My best friend told me that FRESH uploaded parts of their album on
http://fresh.nethotel.at/freshalbum.htm and you can download it for free. (That's why I'd give them 2 points less.)
Hopefully, you will enjoy it as much as I do!
All the Best,

Muckland Music: A long overlooked 315 musical traditionmall
"Small Potato Town" (by the Muckland Crooners)
An excerpt from a letter of endorsement to Rolling Stone magazine ...
In the history of modern American music there has never been a musical event of such profound artistic and socio-political significance as the release of the new CD, "Small Potato Town," by the trend-regressing Muckland Crooners, a group that bills itself as "the garage band that refused to die!" The Muckland Crooners hails from the rich, pungent potato fields of Central New York and lay claim to one of the most inspiring and obscure musical traditions in America: muckland music.
I have no personal connection to this group other than I, too, graduated with these guys from Port Byron Central High School before going on for degrees at Marquette (BA), Northwestern University Law School ( J.D.), Yale (LL.M.) and Princeton (M.P.A.), proving that it is indeed possible to escape from a "Small Potato Town," at least physically. But the emotional pull of the heartland of New York State muckland is inescapable and uniquely captured in the Muckland Crooners title song, "Small Potato Town." These guys are not only fun to listen to (a few songs excepted), they are just plain funny
I am a US international lawyer, business school finance professor and financial consultant living and working in Barcelona, Spain, but I retain close ties, after several decades and across the sea, to my high school friends back in Port Byron, New York, which should indicate the depth of muckland emotionality, the same depth of feeling that powers their unforgettable melodies. I guarantee you that you will love "Small Potato Town"

Matisyahu Movin the Entire Sceen
"Live at Stubbs"
It was immediate… A mere speck out of the corner of my eye, a slight sound of applause, a perfect pitch, and I was captured. A closer look at the MTVU video revealed Matisyahu, a Hasidic Jew; melodically sing the flow of the Hebrew intro to “King Without A Crown,” the first single off, “Live at Stubbs.” The album itself is a brilliant to start to what could be even more brilliant career. The sensation himself has an undefined power and presence, and along with a band of multiple talents and insatiable chemistry, Matisyahu is the hottest underground ticket this summer, more like this year. Check out the album/video at www.hasidicraggae.com and do yourself a favor and catch a live performance. Most people could only hope to experience a tenth of what a Matisyahu show has to offer.

Local band comes out with new album
From: Phil Moore
I think everyone should check out this new album by these guys named Pete and Dave who live on the Northside. Together they form the band "Crash Martinez" and sing acoustic punk. They gave me their CD after an Open Mike at Mezzanotte where they had totally rocked the show. I hope to see them again very soon. Their website is http://www.crashmartinez.com and you can read another review about them at http://www.subcurrents.com/reviews/crashmartinez.htm don't forget to listen to the sample tracks!

"Resurrection"
Brian Vander Ark
Resurrection is the best album I've bought in years.
In my opinion Brian Vander Ark is highly underrated as a singer and songwriter.
Resurrection has 11 amazing tracks with a unique mixture of instruments and
excellent lyrics. Vander Ark’s songs have a very honest and personal feel to them
and are sung in a strong and extraordinary voice.
This album is addictive! You will find your self humming and singing his tunes for
weeks.
I bought two copys, one for home use and one for my car.
I don't ever want to be with out it.

Jamie Notarthomas Band is BACK

Jamie Notarthomas Band
Crazy Clam, Sylvan Beach
After catching Jamie Notarthomas At Sylvan Beach - I was able to catch his new band for the first time! This was quite refreshing to see opposed to Jamie's personal and intimate solo gigs. It consists of a bassist, drummer and keyboardist. I think his band is very tight and they are very good at singing in harmony with Jamie, who has a great voice on his own let alone with a great back up band! There were alot of familiar songs off the "Heads or Tales" and self titled debute that were done just as well live with the new band as the album! I have expectations that Jamie and his new band will go far!
I suggest anyone that has a chance to see Jamie solo or with his new band catch the opporitunity. Its a chance to see some real and talented musicians playing great music in a positive setting.
Visit www.jamienotarthomas.com
for more info on Jamie, his band and where they are performing.
