Versailles Records is using the song "B.O.N.E." from the Oneida NY band LoveBone for a new compilation album in the works, Strip Club Rock Vol. I/II, which seeks to celebrate the storied union of Sex and Rock & Roll by featuring blues, rock, pop rock, metal, industrial rock, rap-rock, and any and all relevant sub-genres which routinely and traditionally have been the soundtrack to topless rocking! The album will also feature current/former members of many of hard rock's loudest and most
debaucherous bands! The album will be in stores Fall, 2007. {www.versaillesrecords.com}
Formed in Oneida NY, July 2002, the name LoveBone did not just pop up. It came from a Poison song "I Hate Every Bone In Your Body But Mine" from the "Power To The People" cd. While rehearsing, writing, and performing, they developed a loyal following inspired by the groups interpretation of the music of the old school, 70's/80's, Dirty Hard Rock/Metal /Glam. Strong critical acclaim and highly positive reviews came from all over the world following the cd release of "The Bare Bones Demo", recorded at Evolutions Studios, Utica NY, co- produced by Tony Touris.
LoveBone's unique sound and addictive pulse is up and running harder than ever.
Always dedicated to a sound that makes you rock - hard, all night long.

"Off-Center Records" celebrates 15 years in Downtown Utica this May, with the opening of a second location at 722 Varick Street in the Heart of the Brewery District. Owners John & Mary Keller view the Varick Street location as a fantastic opportunity to expand their visibility and broaden their customer base by giving a continued specialized appeal to a growing market that desires a unique & eclectic old-school record shop experience.
Bolstering this venture the storfront will also feature "Virgo Bat's Retro Collective", bringing vintage apparel back to Utica after a seven year absence. Manager of the shop, Robin Raabe had owned "Chancey's Vintage" in Utica from 1993 until 2000, and now will return to one of her passions working in the new store.
"Off-Center Records-West" and "Virgo Bat's Retro Collective" at 722 Varick Street are anticipating a May 16th opening celebration marking John's 15th year in business in Utica, and they hope to encompass a perfect blend of New and Used Vinyl Records, CD's, & Cassettes, Music Memorabilia, Musician's Equipment, as well as a Funky Array of Authentic Vintage and Retro Clothing Styles and Cool Collectibles. The store will be open currently Wednesday thru Saturday afternoons, adding more hours and days towards this Fall. Hand-made clothing fashions and accessories plus other crafted items will be encouraged on consignment from local artisans and possible acoustic performances will be highlighted throughout the summer.
For more information contact: John Keller at his main store at 116 Bleecker Street Downtown Utica, Monday through Saturday 11am until 6pm, phone

After almost nine years as the energetic and soulful electric guitar player for the Baldwinsville-based Mike Estep Band, founding member Jeff Favalo is trading in his six-string for the joys and challenges of fatherhood.
With the impending birth of his first child with wife Shannon, Jeff is stepping away from the demands of a performing musician, channeling his efforts instead toward his growing family.
But before Jeff lays down his "Strat" for the last time, the band has scheduled three final shows with the current configuration of Favalo, Mike Estep (acoustic guitar), Steve Orlando, Jr. (drums), and Paul Opel (bass). They'll perform March 30 at Shifty's on Burnet Ave., April 6 at Coleman's Irish Pub on Tipperary Hill, and April 7 at a special going-away show at Mohegan Manor in Baldwinsville.
“Jeff has been with me since the beginning of this project, so he's as much a part of this band's sound and spirit as I am,” said Estep, the group's primary songwriter. “His great style and musicianship have been instrumental in the success of this group over the years.”
“But more than that,” he continued, “Jeff is a great person and a great friend, and we’re very happy for him and Shannon. We'll find another guitar player, but we'll never replace Jeff.”
Having been an engineer during the recording of the debut Mike Estep CD, "One Lane Bridge," Favalo helped put together a group to perform those tunes for a CD release party in May 1998, and the Mike Estep Band was born.
“What started out as a one-night stand turned into a magical nine-year ride,” said Favalo. “I couldn't have asked for a better bunch of guys to hang out and play music with. I'll always have great memories of my time with the MEB.”
The remaining three band members plan to continue performing with another guitarist, according to Estep, but haven't yet found that missing puzzle piece.
“It's been a while since we've last added a new band member,” said Estep, citing Opel's arrival in 1999. “But we're looking forward to finding a great fit for us and seeing what new directions musical and otherwise come our way.”

Two interesting thoughts on last night’s Grammy Awards … although I have heard positive feedback on the ceremonies the show got the lowest ratings in 10 years. Also jazz composer Maria Schneider accepted a Grammy ‘without selling a single copy in a record store.’ She financed her project through ArtistShare. I don't know if it was a first, but it must be on a short list. The times they are a changin’.
While I’m on the subject of changing times…I’ve noticed in the last three months that about nine percent of my traffic has been from Firefox users. I am now trying it out myself. I notice a definite speed and usability difference on Windows 2000. On my Mac I don’t really see a difference than when using IE on DSL, but, on dial-up, the Firefox is definitely faster. Although Safari is more attractive than any other browser, I don’t use it much, I’d say speed is about the same. Firefox has pop up blocking and some other usability updates that make it pretty cool. Anyway if you are an avid surfer check out Firefox for yourself and be a part of a revolution.

I've moved The Redhouse in Syracuse from 'Links' to 'Venues', which seems appropriate, I guess. The Redhouse is a performance venue and gallery that brings the arts to Armory Square in a whole new way. Their goals include promoting regional artists and connecting Syracuse to the international artistic community. Several good things happening there for Thanksgiving include Eye Level (Marc Compani) on the 26th, and Donna Colton & The Troublemakers, with The Scarlet Ending on November 24th. Check the November calendar for other shows there and check out Redhouse's site.

Take a trip to Syracuse tomorrow night and help support the local scene. Tundra Tavern is hosting a night of great music to benefit UMTV. There are few, more dedicated supporters of local music than Rich. You can show your support, help raise some money for the show and all its associated costs, and have some fun, too. Bands scheduled are Brand New Joe, Down The Drain (from Bufflalo, The Tones, and Thunderosa.

The Bufftones have toned it down a little (sorry, I couldn't resist) ...they are now The ‘Tones. Why the name change? The group noted that there was a well known a cappella group from Ohio in the 1980's that released a few records under the moniker "The Bufftones", and its yet to be determined if they are willing to forfeit the rights to that name. Johnny Unconscious says: "We also think its a bit arrogant, but in a good way," he continues. "There are so many bands out there with some kind of pre-fix - "Tones" type of name, (DefTones, Bosstones etc....) we didn't want to be lumped into that category any longer!" Dave says, "We have called it "The Tones" for a long time already ourselves for short. In light of the other group with the same name, and a few other small reasons, we thought we would just abbreviate it instead of going with something completely new." He continues "Hey- no one calls the Rolling Stones the Rolling stones- we call 'em the Stones!" ‘But the question still remains, what do we call The Buff now?
If you are a paid UMARC member the non-profit wants you to check your membership card for your renewal information and contact them to renew your yearly membership. UMARC has also announced the chosen singer/songwriters for the Mohawk Valley Tribute CD. Some locally unsullied groups are included as well as some community favorites [more]
Zoe has submitted a terrific article on the new "Before Cowboys" CD from Diane Schnier. She and her husband Al talk about the trials and tribulations that went into the project. Zoe outdid himself on this one and he promises us a triple header in the coming months.
Lastly, there is another new site in the area…CNY Events lists just what it says, events and happenings in CNY. There are links and a post up for your own announcements. Check it out!

Hey, long time no rant...
Under the heading of “It Was Good While It Lasted,” Utica’s The Vine is calling it quits effective August 4, 2004. In its short run the publication brought the “MoVa” some great art and good content. But, money makes the world go ‘round … I hope the future holds good things for all involved.
UMARC (Utica Music Alliance & Resource Center, Inc) is moving; in more ways than one. On August 1st, they move their headquarters to 116 Bleecker Street, Utica, inside Off-Center Records & Collectibles. They are looking for venues to hold their monthly events such as workshops, seminars, songwriting circles, and their Troubadour Series and Storyteller Series. I’m sure they will keep us posted. UMARC is also moving its Open Mic Night on Sunday’s from the UMARC Headquarters to The Devereux (37 Devereux Street, Utica). The group is raising funds to apply for Federal 501 (c) (3) Non-Profit Status, which would allow for some donations to be tax-deductible and allow for a broader opening for grant applications. Check their site for more info.
By tomorrow we should know the KROCK winner. I’ve got my favorite but I’m not telling. I’m sure Caustic, Bufftones, Wagner and Stone Soul Foundation all did a great job. Can’t wait to find out who made the absolute final cut.
June 9, 2004
Zoe came through with a great review of Lithium Zero's new CD, "New Treason" on the 315 Reviews page. Well done on the low down of the recording.
June 1, 2004
It’s a slight redesign this month. Everything is still here, but you might have to investigate further to find your favorites. Look for a review soon from Zoe on the latest CD from Lithium Zero. You can also contribute a review by clicking on the, appropriately named “Your Review“ link on the left. Also new - articles are linked to the original site. This frees me from copyright hassles, 'cause, hey, its free speech when I'm telling you about an interesting article, plus I can leave the links up for more than 30 days.
For those who might not have heard, The Syracuse New Times reported last week that Pfohls Beach House will close at the end of the summer. Make sure you take a drive before Labor Day and say goodbye.
Oh yeah, the board is back...we'll see how that goes.
Also new this month is a link to Rock The Vote. You don't need to be a rich, cute college kid to register or to vote, anyone is welcome. I'll skip the lecture on the importance of exercising your right to vote. After the last election if you don't know how valuable your vote is, maybe you should just stay home anyway.

Friday May 21st, the Mike Estep Band celebrates their sixth anniversary with a show at Buffalo's in Baldwinsville NY.
Since first performing live May 24,1998 as a "one night only" show to promote the release of Mike Estep's "One Lane Bridge", MEB continues on, playing throughout the eastern U.S. The venues range from local taverns to regional festivals with a big highlight being a performance on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in 2002. The years have seen the personnel line up change very little. Original members Estep, Jeff Favalo and Steve Orlando jr, were joined by bassist Paul Opel in 1999 resulting in the band that continues today. MEB has released two more critically praised CD's; "This Machine" 2000 and "Next In Line" 2002. At present the group is in the early production stages of release #4, produced by Doug Moncrief and recorded at GFI studios in Rochester. For more information go to their site.
April 30, 2004
Guess what? I’m still alive. In April I coordinated an office move of about forty people, shot a wedding (in the photographic way), and completed the graphics on a CD project that has been ongoing for the last year. The bottom line I couldn’t do all that and the site, too. So, hey, the paying gigs come first.
Lithium Zero has finished their long awaited CD entitled “New Treason” and it goes on sale Friday, May 7th. The band is having a release party the night of 5/7 at Touch Of Texas in Norwich. They’re doing it up good with free stuff from The Music Loft and body art from Rosebud Tattoos. All you have is sign up at the merch table the night of the show. The Dustin Dwyer Band kicks things off at 9:30pm and Dr. Tunes is spinning disks between sets. The weather is fine for a road trip, take a drive, pick up a new CD, and support the scene. Touch of Texas is located at 58 Hale Street in Norwich, 607-336-5555.
This is the last chance to submit songs and artwork for the Utica Music Alliance & Resource Center's Mohawk Valley Tribute CD inclusion Competition.Deadline for Songs is 5pm May 15th 2004 and the Deadline for Artwork
Submissions is 5pm May 22nd 2004. [more]
Also, UMARC is having a fund raiser May 8th. Read more and find out what makes a chicken cross the road by clicking here.
If you are in the Utica area pick up a copy of the new bi-weekly alternative paper, The Vine. The premier issue was April 21st. The May 5th issue features none other than yours truly, now I know how hard those interviews can be…

Bad News … Bleachers will be permanently closing its doors Saturday, April 10.
Good News … Every night until Saturday the club will be having very special shows to bid farewell. Check the Bleachers site for more details and stop by to say thanks for supporting our local scene.
Good News … Management and staff will be moving to Club Tundra in Syracuse (formely The Lost Horizon)
Bad News … The name of the place is Club Tundra (doesn’t need much explaining)
Possible Good News … Rumor has it that there may be a name change - something a little more familiar and a little less cool.
April 1, 2004
The shows must go on!
The official upload days are after the first Wednesday of the month. Since that wouldn't be until after April 7th I have posted an Early Edition so that gig dates can get out there first. For those who actually read the articles they will be up on the 7th (or thereabouts).
March 22, 2004
Well, I guess I have been pretty silent lately, but I’m back now…
